Paperwork in Colorado.
Find the official resources behind the preparation notes. Use the exact document-specific requirements and current agency forms; a general template does not replace required filing, signing, notice, or transfer procedures.
Vehicle transfers & bills of sale
Record precise sale and delivery details and complete the county title process. An after-hours travel exception has specific conditions.
Coverage: Motor vehicles in the documented guidance. Boat, trailer, firearm, and other asset rules require their own review.
Record the sale time as well as the date
Include year, make, VIN, price, both parties’ information and signatures, and sale time. Colorado’s limited after-hours purchase travel exception requires a signed bill of sale showing time and date, and other conditions must also be satisfied.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale
Colorado DMV — Buying and sellingKeep plates and verify emissions
The seller keeps the plates. Check the emissions certificate requirement when the buyer lives in an emissions area; a bill of sale does not waive it.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale
Colorado DMV — Buying and sellingComplete the title and seller notice steps
Enter sale date and price on the title unless supplied in a separate bill of sale, then complete the county title transfer. Colorado provides a seller release-of-liability reporting option; a signed agreement does not submit that report.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale
Colorado DMV — Buying and sellingDo not select the purged-record form by default
DR 2116 is specifically a Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale for a Purged Colorado Record. Use that process only when the county office confirms it applies, rather than substituting it for a standard title.

Colorado’s tenancy rules have changed substantially; review the applicable lease date and current laws before drafting.
Coverage: Residential rental research. Commercial, farm, hunting, equipment, and vehicle leases are separate subjects.
Check current law as well as the overview
The General Assembly’s overview covers residential lease regulation and the interaction with federal and stricter local law. Use it to identify deposits, habitability, prohibited terms, and notice issues, then check legislation enacted after the overview. Record the municipality and lease commencement date; do not present this older overview as certification of 2026 compliance.
