OFFICIAL RESOURCES · RESEARCH CHECKED OCTOBER 5, 2026

Paperwork in Idaho.

Find the official resources behind the preparation notes. Use the exact document-specific requirements and current agency forms; a general template does not replace required filing, signing, notice, or transfer procedures.

Vehicle transfers & bills of sale

Sign the title and separately report the sale. Idaho’s release-of-liability form explicitly says the title record remains until the buyer obtains a new title.

Coverage: Motor vehicles in the documented guidance. Boat, trailer, firearm, and other asset rules require their own review.

Report delivery through ITD

Use the ITD online release-of-liability service or ITD 3858. Record the buyer, vehicle, actual selling price, mileage, and delivery date; retain your evidence and remove the plates as the form instructs.

Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale

Keep title transfer separate

Give the buyer the assigned title. The release notice marks the sale but does not itself change the titled owner. Include a signed private sale record identifying the vehicle and the date of delivery.

Residential rental documents

Use the Idaho Attorney General’s landlord and tenant manual to review the lease and supporting records.

Coverage: Residential rental research. Commercial, farm, hunting, equipment, and vehicle leases are separate subjects.

Review written terms and the record of condition

The official consumer-manual library includes landlord and tenant guidelines. Before signing, compare the lease’s deposit, repair, access, and termination terms with the manual and current law. Attach condition evidence and keep written communications; do not infer that an optional lease field makes a fee or deduction lawful.
