Vehicle transfers & bills of sale
Indiana allows a bill of sale as primary ownership evidence only in specified situations; ordinary titled vehicle sales still need the ownership process.
Coverage: Motor vehicles in the documented guidance. Boat, trailer, firearm, and other asset rules require their own review.
Use sale evidence for missing date or price
A bill of sale may supply the sale date or purchase price missing from a title, but cannot override a conflicting entry already on the title. Use the BMV title-correction process for an actual error.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale

Where BMV permits a bill of sale as ownership evidence, include purchaser name, vehicle description and VIN, seller address and signature, plus the required physical inspection. Indiana says the bill of sale itself does not require notarization.
