Vehicle transfers & bills of sale
Vermont’s July 2024 title law changed older-vehicle transfers. Confirm the title history rather than assuming a rolling age exemption.
Coverage: Motor vehicles in the documented guidance. Boat, trailer, firearm, and other asset rules require their own review.
Existing older registration has a specific route
For a 2009-or-older vehicle already registered in the seller’s name in Vermont, DMV describes providing the registration and signed bill of sale; the buyer then obtains a title. An out-of-state buyer may need a title under that state’s rules.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale

Provide the assigned prior title with all owners’ releases, necessary bills of sale for the ownership chain, and released liens. Previously non-titled vehicles require the registration and complete ownership chain specified by DMV.
Document scope: Vehicle Bill of Sale, Motorcycle Bill of Sale, RV & Camper Bill of Sale

Vermont DMV — Official VT-005 ↗Residential rental documents
Vermont’s habitability and notice obligations must be checked separately from negotiated lease terms.
Coverage: Residential rental research. Commercial, farm, hunting, equipment, and vehicle leases are separate subjects.
Habitability is not an optional lease clause
9 V.S.A. §4457 provides an implied habitability obligation and prohibits waiver of its protections in a rental agreement. Record the repair-reporting contact and condition evidence. Review the current Chapter 137 for deposits, access, rent increases, and different tenant and landlord notice requirements.
Vermont Legislature — Title 9, Chapter 137Use the correct current housing-code authority
The Division of Fire Safety explains its rental health-and-safety role following the 2022 transfer from local health officers. Use its current inspection and complaint resources when recording code issues; do not direct every housing-code complaint through an outdated local-only process.
